Vision
At Reevy Hill, History is planned to provide pupils with a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world by using a range of sources to ignite pupil’s curiosity and develop their understanding of chronology, ancient civilisations and past events.
Our History Curriculum is carefully designed so knowledge is considered and built upon from Early Years right through to Year 6. It is carefully planned and sequenced so every topic has a clear end point with specific knowledge and key concepts built upon throughout ensuring children know and remember more. We ensure that children’s knowledge and understanding of the past and chronology, as well as their questioning and research skills, is developed through using a range of primary and secondary sources, thinking critically and developing their own perspective and judgements.
We strive to help pupils understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of society and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity. Pupils start by exploring their own past by reflecting on themselves as babies and understanding the changes they’ve been through before beginning to look at how the society around them has changed and past events that have influenced life today.
Key Concepts
Key concepts which are the 'big ideas' are weaved throughout our Curriculum. Children will learn and revisit these key concepts as they progress through school to allow them to build a rich and deep knowledge of the big ideas in each subject.
