Vision
We aim for Design and Technology to be an inspiring, practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils will learn to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within different contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.
Pupils will learn how to take risks and become resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Children will also learn to understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook. We are very lucky at our school that all children have access and the opportunity to apply their cooking skills in the Creative Zone which is purpose kitchen space for children.
Over the course of the year, each class will complete three projects which could include Textiles, Mechanisms, Structures, Electrical and Food. Each unit is carefully planned so there is a clear sequence with an end product. Knowledge is built upon each year with learning referred to from the previous year to ensure the children are retaining the knowledge.
Key Concepts
Key concepts which are the 'big ideas' are weaved throughout our Curriculum. Children will learn and revisit these key concepts as they progress through school to allow them to build a rich and deep knowledge of the big ideas in each subject.
