Hello everyone!
I have added some helpful links to our class page to support the children with practising their times tables in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC), as well as keeping their arithmetic skills ticking over.
What is the Multiplication Tables Check?
The MTC is a short, online check that children take towards the end of Year 4. It assesses how quickly and accurately they can recall their multiplication facts, from the 2 times table up to the 12 times table. Children answer 25 questions, with a short time limit for each question, so regular practice can really help them feel confident and prepared.
The practice websites can be accessed on tablets, mobile phones and laptops, making it easy to fit in a little practice at home whenever you have time.
I will also be uploading some printable times tables sheets for anyone who would prefer to practise on paper.
💡 A little practice goes a long way!
If you would like to build some practice into your child's routine at home, here is a simple idea:
5 minutes: Have a go at one of the online times tables games.
5 minutes: Focus on a particular times table or revisit any tricky questions.
Optional extra: Try a few arithmetic questions to keep those calculation skills sharp!
Please don't feel that you need to do everything every day. Even a few minutes of regular practice can help children grow in confidence and become quicker at recalling their times tables. Keeping it short, positive and fun is the most important thing!
