Mathematics: Numbers, Space, Shape and Measure

Maths is taught everyday in Reception class with an adult-led input and maths activities are available within provision for children to access at any time to practice their mathematical knowledge.

Focus for maths in Reception:

• Counting up to 20 everyday objects
• Have in depth knowledge of numbers to 10
• Finding one more or one less than a number up to 20
• Number bonds to 10
• Doubling and halving numbers up to 10
• Saying and using the number names in order
• Starting to use the language of subtraction and addition: counting on and back
• Finding and creating simple patterns
• Comparing quantities and shapes
• Talking about things like size, shape, weight, distance, time and money in order to develop the correct vocabulary
