Good Morning, we hope you have all had a lovely half term break! This week in Maths we will set an activity each day to develop number, counting and addition skills and understanding. We hope that you will enjoy these activities; please email us on to show us how you got on!

Take care,

Mrs Metcalfe and Miss Gibson x

Today's activity is called Higher or Lower and aims to develop your child's knowledge and understanding of the order and value of numbers to 12. If you feel your child is able, you could extend this game to use numbers to 20.

As you play the game, encourage your child to explain their understanding by asking them why they think that. So, for example, if the number card is 10 and they have said they think the next number will be lower than 10, ask them why. Can they explain by saying something like '10 is only 2 less than 12' or 'the only other numbers that are more than 10 are 11 and 12' or 'there are a lot more numbers left that are less than 10'. You can prompt your child to think in this way if they find it difficult to explain their thoughts themselves.
