This week is our Art week. We are studying the work of Chris Ofili and eventually building up to creating a painting. Have a go at completing the tasks below, if you don't have paint at home you could even use coloured pencils to create a piece of art.
Have a look at some of Chris Ofili's work on the document. As you look, consider the questions below - you might want to make some notes about each picture to help you reflect and analyse.
- What do you notice about the picture? What do you think the picture if of?
- How do you think he has created the picture? What materials do you think he has used?
- What do you notice about the colours he has used?
- What are the similarities of all his work?
A lot of Ofili's paintings are formed by layering. He creates a background using shapes and vibrant colours, then uses layering to add a more distinct picture to the center of his painting. Today, I would like you to have a go at designing and creating a background using simple shapes and vibrant colours. Look at his paintings from yesterday to get some inspiration about colours and shapes you might want to use - remember you could use paint or colours, any resources you have at home!
